Day 1...

G'day,

I figure this will be a good way for family and friends to keep up with the boys latest project with me... It might be quicker than a phone call too lol

Well today has been full on but in a good way.  We had planned to get a few veges growing this year especially since our visits to Granddad's Garden, Grandpop's house and getting some of his heirloom seeds.  Recently we have been in contact with some local gardeners on a FB forum sooo this morning we met a lovely lady called Julie... the boys just loved her HUGE garden and have really taken to the idea of trading!

So in Julies wonderful garden between checking out the tadpoles, some wonderful natives and adorable dogs we traded some potting mix, curry leaf tree seeds and later an ornamental pear tree for some seedlings of oregano, thyme, lemon balm, strawberries and a birds-eye chilli bush which the boys keep daring Dad to eat lol.  We also got a mint and spearmint plant as well... and later a Ceylon Spinach which my boys are attempting to eat every leaf before we even get it in the ground!  So a big thank you to Julie for the inspiration and a place to begin with the boys!

So this is Day 1 before we began...

Well we got home and tried to figure out where to start in our garden that is all natives with some poor planting choices by the landscapers... the Ornamental Pear had to come out... less than 2 meters from next door it would have grown to about 10 meters... Mr Muscles Thomas decided to dig that out by himself!  He did a great job too!

In the mean time Brandon and I separated out the strawberries and planted them in the planter and then Brandon planted out the Oregano, Lemon Balm and Thyme.
We then potted up all the mint plants as we don't want them in the garden bed!
Then as Tom filled the hole where the Ornamental Pear was with a Sub-Lime Dwarf lime tree Brandon made a bamboo woven wall for Grandpop's Beans - Lazy Housewife beans to the rest of us... and some pea seeds from Julie...
As big Brothers do... as Brandon Planted... Thomas supervised and passed the seeds.... While we are looking here the "small bushes" near the bean poles?  Another plant we need to remove... 4 meters by 3.5 Meters?  Good one Landscapers, right next to the wall and lawn in a small garden!  ;-)

Mr Muscles Brandon filled our trolley with potting mix so that I could spread some organic fertiliser which the dogs immediately decided to try and eat!  Then the filling of pots commenced including newspaper pots made by Thomas just like Grandpop!
As many pots as we could find were filled... and half are now seeded... 5 with Rainbow Chard, 2 with gorgeous Glory Lillies .

We popped in 7 of Grandpop's Super Toms, 1 Stevia... 3 rainbow chard's, 2 strawberry seeds and 4 baby strawberry plants (thanks Julie!).

Happy Gardening *hugs*

Sarah
